Rachel Tan was awarded her BVSc with Honours in 1997 from the University of Sydney. She has worked in mixed practice in Australia and the USA. Her speciality certification is in large animal internal medicine with the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. This was completed after a residency and Master’s Degree at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech, USA). Dr Tan was a founding faculty member responsible for the equine clinical program at James Cook University when the Bachelor of Veterinary Science Program was established in 2008. Her research in equine endocrine, respiratory and infectious diseases has been presented nationally and internationally. She currently works both in private large animal practice at Samford Valley Veterinary Hospital in Brisbane and as a project manager for the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists.
