Carolina Herrera obtained her degree in Molecular Biology at the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Since the year 2000 she works in applying assisted reproductive techniques in bovine, equine,  southamerican camelids and endangered species.

During her first years as an embryologist, she worked at Halitus Instituto Medico in Buenos Aires, Argentina producing bovine, equine and llama embryos by In vitro Fertilization (IVF) and Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI). From 2010 to 2013 she was the director of the Biotechnology Area at Cria Tanoira Embriones, where she worked exclusively with Polo Argentino horses. During this period, she dedicated most of her efforts to set up the embryo sexing technology by preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) and producing foals by ICSI. Nowadays, she works as a research assistant at the Assisted Reproduction Area of the Clinic of Reproductive Medicine of the Vetsuisse Faculty of the University of Zurich and at the Swiss Institute of Equine Medicine (ISME) of the University of Bern.
